Cross numbers offer an excellent way to provide children with variety but within a familiar format. They can be used:-

  • to practise skills

  • to improve ability with reading word problems

  • to provide a context for reasoning problems

  • to assess progress with a topic

  • to allow children to be creative by making up their own

Each cross number has 8 clues - 4 clues across and 4 clues down. Once all clues are answered, all 10 digit cards will have been placed on the grid. A cross number is an excellent way to encourage children to cross check their own answers, since each answer is linked to others.

The clues are examples which show how we can be versatile with language.
